PROCLAMATION NO. 160

DECLARING THE LAST WEEK OF OCTOBER OF EVERY YEAR AS “FOOD SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK”

WHEREAS, one of the primary concerns of the Department of Health is food safety;

WHEREAS, the Department of Health is desirous to create public awareness and to educate people on food safety in order to reduce and ultimately eradicate food poisoning and other foodborne illness which in some cases resulted to death;

WHEREAS, the Food Safety Institute Foundation, Inc., a non-stock, non-profit organization, is actively engaged in educating the public on how to ensure safety on food that are handled, manufactured, produced and/or served;

WHEREAS, there is a need for continuous education on food safety to achieve the goal of eradicating food poisoning and other foodborne illness.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the last week of October of every year as “Food Safety Awareness Week” under the auspices of the Food Safety Institute Foundation, Inc. in coordination with the Department of Health.

All officials and employees of local government units and other concerned agencies of the Government are hereby enjoined to actively participate and support the observance thereof.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
