His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III
President of the Philippines
To the City of Bago, Negros Occidental
On the occasion of their 50th Anniversary

[Released on February 19, 2016]

My warmest greetings to the City of Bago, Negros Occidental, as you celebrate your 50th Anniversary.

The commemoration of your cityhood is always a cause for celebration: It is an acknowledgement of your greater social, political, and economic significance. It is the culmination of generations of hard work that transformed your once modest community of farmers and fishermen into the vibrant and dynamic city that it is today. May this milestone encourage you to work even harder to make Bago a tourism and agri-industrial growth area not only for your province but also for the entire Negros Island Region.

As the Metro Bacolod corridor expands to include Bago, and as the economy of our country continues to grow, I am certain that even more investments will flow into your city. I trust that you will plan for these developments to ensure that they will benefit the people in your locality and ascertain that they will not interfere with the natural and historic heritage that you take pride in. Let us keep working together and continue on the Daang Matuwid that has resulted in our present resurgence, that we may build a more equitably progressive future for our people.

I wish you a joyful, meaningful anniversary.
