PROCLAMATION NO. 279

DECLARING THE LAST WEEK OF APRIL OF EACH YEAR AS RICE FESTIVAL WEEK

WHEREAS, the attainment of sufficiency in rice production is one of the major goals of our government; and

WHEREAS, to attain this objective as early as possible, it is necessary to draw the attention of our people to more effective methods of rice production;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ramon Magsaysay, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the last week of April of each year as Rice Festival Week.

The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources shall take charge of, and coordinate, all activities in connection with the celebration of said Week.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 24th day of March, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-six, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the tenth.
