PROCLAMATION NO. 493

AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE CANCER SOCIETY, INC., TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL, MEMBERSHIP AND FUND DRIVE DURING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 15, 1965, TO FEBRUARY 28, 1966.

WHEREAS, the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., has successfully pioneered and spearheaded the move towards the prevention and control of cancer, one of the top killer-diseases in the country, through its three-point cancer control program;

WHEREAS, since its organization eight years ago the Society has served more than 36,000 patients by giving free medical services, disseminating information on the disease and conducting researches in the field of cancer; and

WHEREAS, in the expansion of its medical services, the Society has already launched free treatment of some cases of cancer through the use of its Deep X-Ray Therapy Unit, and to carry on further its humanitarian work in a greater scope of operation, the Society needs the continued support and cooperation of the public;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Diosdado Macapagal, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby authorized the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., to conduct a national educational, membership and fund campaign from December 15, 1965, to February 28, 1966. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality, race or creed, to assist in this humanitarian endeavor by giving generously of their means so that the drive may be a complete success. I also authorize all national and local officials and employees, school officials and students to lend their full support and cooperation to the campaign.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the. Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
