PROCLAMATION NO. 245
DECLARING 1989 AS THE PHILIPPINE FIESTA YEAR
WHEREAS, the Philippines counts among its rich cultural heritage the celebration of fiestas and other indigenous activities in the various towns and cities;
WHEREAS, these fiestas and activities should be celebrated in their simple yet authentic manner giving due emphasis to their historical and traditional significance;
WHEREAS, this aspect of Filipino life which is one continuous festivities — an interesting mix of Christian, Muslim and other beliefs — should be fully projected here and abroad in order to fully appreciate the real Filipino; and
WHEREAS, the proper projection and promotion of the Philippines as the Fiesta Islands will greatly contribute to the promotion of the Philippines as a wholesome tourist destination;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim 1989 as the Philippine Fiesta Year.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
