PROCLAMATION NO. 266
DECLARING EVERY SECOND SUNDAY OF MAY AS “MOTHER’S DAY” AND THIRD SUNDAY OF JUNE AS “FATHER’S DAY” IN THE PHILIPPINES.
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines declares that “Marriage, as an inviolable social institution, is the foundation of the family and shall be protected by the State”;
WHEREAS, the wholesome growth and normal activities of the family are in the hands of the parents, the wise exercise of whose authority is essential to the fulfillment of the natural and proper ends of the family; and
WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper to dedicate certain days of the year to confer tribute to the important role of the Filipino mothers and fathers in instilling and fostering love, respect, discipline, industry and enterprise within their home and the community where they belong, and to further manifest the ideals and virtues of good parenthood;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON, C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the second Sunday of May as “Mother’s Day” or “ARAW NG MGA INA” and the third Sunday of June as “Father’s Day” or “ARAW NG MGA AMA”.
This supersedes Proclamation No. 2037, dated November 27, 1980.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
Done in the City of Manila, this 8th day of June in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and eighty-eight.
