The month of June has been declared Dengue Awareness Month in the Philippines to build public awareness on the preventive measures against the mosquito-borne viral disease. Per the DOH, dengue is an all-year-round public health threat. In 2007, there were 43,938 cases and 407 deaths reported from January to December 8. Disseminating information is the key to solve the dengue menace. The public should be told that the best and most cost effective preventive strategy is source reduction.
