Vice President Binay to keynote Nuclear Security Summit seminar

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said today that Vice-President and Presidential Envoy to the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit Jejomar C. Binay will keynote the seminar on “Public Awareness on Nuclear Safety and Security and the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit” to be held at the Diamond Hotel in Manila on March 2.

Expected to be present during the seminar are Republic of Korea (ROK) Ambassador to the Philippines Hye Min Lee, and officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute.

The Seminar will highlight the importance of international cooperation in addressing the threat of nuclear terrorism and inform key stakeholders of the Philippines’ contributions in the areas of nuclear safety and security.

It is a preparatory activity to the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit to be held on March 26 to March 27 in Seoul.

The 2012 Nuclear Security Summit will convene over 50 Heads of Government to discuss measures to enhance nuclear security while fostering greater international confidence in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The Summit also aims to advance the commitments made during the First Nuclear Security Summit held in Washington D.C. in 2010.
