Almost PHP1-B worth of standby funds, relief supplies in place for impact of ‘Carina’


MANILA, July 31 (PNA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepositioned a total of PHP952,313,694.09 worth of standby funds and stockpiles in anticipation of the need to provide augmentation for the impact of severe tropical storm ‘Carina’

The funds and stockpiles consisting of food packs and non-food items in its field offices in Regions CAR, NCR, 1, 2, 3, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, 5, 6, 7, NIR, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, CARAGA and also in National Resource Operation Center in Pasay City, Manila.

DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said that as part of preparation members of Quick Response Teams (QRT) consisting of Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) team are ready for mobilization.

Aside from trained personnel on psycho-social support processing, family evacuation preparedness and camp coordination, inventory and warehouse management teams, disaster response communication and information management teams were also prepared.

Meanwhile, DSWD’s RETT (Rapid Emergency Telecoms Team) were also readied for mobilization and deployment.

Aside from that, trained volunteers through the Bayanihang Bayan Registry of Volunteers on Rapid Assessment, Relief Distribution, Camp Management, Stress Debriefing among others were also readied for mobilization.

Even Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Parents Leader were also equipped as force multipliers on humanitarian response.

The agency also helped in identifying possible evacuation centers as part of their close coordination on the disaster response team efforts in monitoring the movement and effects of ‘Carina’. (PNA)
