Kabilang sa mga iginagawad na parangal ng Pilipinas ay ang Lehiyong Pandangal o ang Legion of Honor. Binubuo ito ng anim na ranggo para sa mga sibilyan (sa bisa ng Executive Order No. 236, s. 2003) at apat na ranggo para sa militar (sa bisa ng AFPR G 131-053, s-86). Makikita sa ibaba ang paglalarawan sa bawat ranggo/antas:

Ranggo/Antas: Iginagawad sa:
Chief Commander Sibilyan: Para sa natatanging pagpapakita ng pamumuhay na nakasentro sa serbisyong pampubliko (life achievement) na pasa rin sa batayan ng Quezon Service Cross; o sa dati o kasalukuyang pinuno ng estado at/o ng pamahalaan.Militar: Pinuno ng Estado, Punong Ministro, Pinuno ng Pamahalaan
Grand Commander Sibilyan: Para sa bukod-tanging paninilbihan na labis na nakabuti sa sandatahan ng Pilipinas; sa Crown Prince, Pangalawang Pangulo, Pangulo ng Senado, Tagapagsalita ng Mababang Kapulungan, Punong Mahistrado o anumang katumbas nito; o sa Embahador, Undersecretary, Katuwang na Kalihim, o iba pang may ranggong katumbas ng mga nabanggit.
Grand Officer Sibilyan: Para sa mga kahanga-hanga at kapuri-puring gawain na nakatutulong at nakabubuti sa Republika ng Pilipinas; sa isang Charge d’affaires e.p., Ministro, Konsehal ng Ministro, Consul General na namumuno sa isang himpilang konsular, Executive Director, o iba pang may ranggo na katumbas ng mga nabanggit.
Commander Sibilyan: Para sa mga kahanga-hanga at kapuri-puring gawain na nakatutulong at nakabubuti sa Republika ng Pilipinas; sa isang Charge d’affaires a.i., Konsehal, First Secretary, Consul General sa isang bahaging konsular ng Embahada, Consular officer na may ranggong mas mataas sa Second Secretary, Director, o sinumang may ranggo na katumbas ng mga nabanggit.Militar: Chief of Staff ng Hukbong Sandatahan, Vice Chief of Staff ng Hukbong Sandatahan, Komandante ng Major Services, Pangulo ng Senado, Punong Mahistrado ng Korte Suprema, Pinuno ng mga Departamento.
Officer Sibilyan: Para sa mga gawaing nararapat bigyan ng pagpapahalaga na nakatutulong at nakabubuti sa Republika ng Pilipinas; o sa Second Secretary, Konsul, Katuwang na Direktor, o iba pang may ranggong katumbas ng mga nabanggit.Militar: Tauhan ng Militar na hindi pa maaaring makatanggap ng Distinguished Service Star.
Legionnaire Sibilyan: Para sa mga gawaing nararapat bigyan ng pagpapahalaga na nakatutulong at nakabubuti sa Republika ng Pilipinas; o sa Third Secretary, Bise Konsul, Attaché, Principal Assistant, o iba pang mayroong ranggong katumbas ng mga nabanggit.Militar: Tauhan ng Militar para sa katangi-tanging gawain na ang antas ay hindi tataas sa Officer o hindi bababa sa Military Medal of Merit.

Itinatag ang Lehiyong Pandangal ng Pilipinas sa bisa ng Army Circular No. 60 noong Hulyo 3, 1947 at ito ang pinakamatanda sa tatlong Senior Honor ng Republika. Itinuturing din ito bilang Order of Defense Merit ng Pilipinas. Ang pinakamataas na ranggo nito, ang Chief Commander, ang pinakamataas na parangal na maibibigay ng Pangulo sa isang indibidwal kahit na walang pagsang-ayon ng Kongreso.

Ang Pangulo ng Pilipinas ang naggagawad ng Lehiyong Pandangal. Maaari rin itong igawad ng Kalihim ng Tanggulang Pambansa para sa Pangulo.

Mula nang ito ay itinatag, apat lamang ang ranggo o antas sa Lehiyong Pandangal—ang Legionnaire ang pinakamababa, at ang Chief Commander naman ang pinakamataas at pinakaprestihiyoso. Subalit noong Setyembre 19, 2003, naging anim ang ranggo sa Lehiyon para sa parangal pansibilyan habang nanatiling apat na ranggo ang mga parangal pangmilitar.

Hindi lamang mga Pilipino ang maaaring makatanggap ng mga parangal na ito. Maging ang mga tagaibang bansa ay nabibigyan din ng Lehiyong Pandangal kung siya ay nakitaan ng pambihirang pagsisilbi sa militar ng Pilipinas, pagtatanggol sa bansa, o anumang ambag para sa pagtataguyod ng dangal ng Republika. Iginagawad ito sa mga sibilyan para sa paninilbihan sa militar o pagtatanggol sa bansa o para sa pamumuhay na nakasentro sa serbisyong pampubliko. Sa militar, ibinibigay ito sa mga kasaping naging katangi-tangi sa pagtupad ng mga tungkulin nila.

Ang bawat makatatanggap ng Lehiyong Pandangal ay maaaring magawaran ulit ng parangal sa parehong ranggo o antas. Kung mangyari man, isang tansong dahon ng Anahaw ang ibinibigay sa pararangalan habang ang karaniwan at opisyal na medalyon ang ibinibigay sa mga nagkamit nito sa unang pagkakataon.
